Something a bit different... we haven't covered too much classical music on this blog, so here's something to get into. I'm only posting a few songs, but get a hold of the entire piece if you can. Quite beautiful.

A classic Marc Bolan album. Expect glam rock/psychedelic pop or whatever you want to call it mixed with some lush melodies and smooth vocals. If you're a Bowie fan you'll probably dig this. It really is too good. Give it a listen:
Mambo Sun
Bang A Gong
Better yet, buy it

Swans used to play really harsh and noisy industrial music. The kind that made you want to jam a knife in your ear because it was so brutal and aggressive. And then they pulled a 180 and started playing experimental post-punk kind of stuff. The stuff I posted here, is of the latter. But all that aggression and nastiness... it's still there, albeit a bit more subtle and subdued. This album in particular is pretty tame compared to some of their other stuff, and if you dig this, make an effort to check out the rest of their discography. One last piece of news: they recently reformed and are due for a new album this year!

I apologize for the rather long delay. It's been a while since anything has been uploaded...
To kick things off, here's stoner/doom metal band, Electric Wizard. This is probably their most acclaimed album. Expect heavy riffage and tons of Black Sabbath worship. The vocals could probably be better, but it's not that big of a deal. What it lacks in the vocals department, it makes up with sheer noise and heaviness. Best listened to with a nice pair of headphones or speakers, and probably after smoking a joint. This is stoner metal after all.
I, the Witchfinder
Vinum Sabbathi
Enjoooooooooy. Or better yet... buy it

Interesting concept album... an attempt to recreate Black Flag's famous album, Damaged. As a Black Flag fan, I had to check it out. It's not quite exactly what I was expecting, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. Just different. Way different (and that's probably because I don't even listen to the Dirty Projectors). Anyways, this stuff is pretty mellow and the vocals are nice unlike the usual Black Flagish stuff.

Rise Above
Buy it.

New album by Converge, out today. If you're a fan of heavy and chaotic punk/metal music this is not to be missed. Overall, pretty solid album, a step up from their previous effort "No Heroes", but not quite up to par with their magnum opus, "Jane Doe". Still, check it out.
The whole album is streamable here...

Perhaps the best solo Wu-Tang release? It's debatable, but this record is definitely up there. Anyways, this album has some real bangers and does a pretty good job mixing in some pretty bad ass samurai movie samples. RZA's production and GZA's rapping are both really solid (although GZA does sound a bit tooooo relaxed at times). Plus, the art work is beyond dope. Check it out if you haven't already:
Liquid Swords
4th Chamber
Yeah. You should buy it too.

Yet another great, yet somewhat forgotten 80s punk/alternative rock act. Husker Du began as a straight up hardcore punk band similar to that of Black Flag and other SST bands, but differentiated themselves by focusing more on melody, which eventually helped shape alternative college rock. New Day Rising is arguably their best album (but check out all of them if you can, especially Zen Arcade) and showcases the bands transition from blistering punk to upbeat melodic alternative rock. Here's a few tracks to wet your appetite:
New Day Rising
Terms of Psychic Warfare
If you're a fan of the fuzzy guitar and melodic undertones, be sure to buy it!

Second post! I hope to keep the blog musically varied, so here we have Big L, another one of those fantastic east coast 90 rappers who flew under the radar. This was his only release unfortunately, before he passed away like any good rapper. Anyways, L drops some really sick rhymes and pretty much kills on every track. I would have to say his flow and lyricism even rivals that of Biggie. If you haven't heard this yet, check it:
Put it On
All Black
As usual, if you dig it, buy it!
