Pixies- Trompe Le Monde
The last Pixies album before the subsequent breakup and often the most overlooked.  It gets a lot of slack, for being more linear, more generic rockish, and lacking Kim Deal.  While these may be true,  nothing changes the fact that this record is pretty awesome.  It's no "Surfer Rosa" or "Doolittle", but c'mon, it's the still the fucking Pixies. Husker Du- New Day Rising
Yet another great, yet somewhat forgotten 80s punk/alternative rock act.  Husker Du began as a straight up hardcore punk band similar to that of Black Flag and other SST bands, but differentiated themselves by focusing more on melody, which eventually helped shape alternative college rock.  New Day Rising is arguably their best album (but check out all of them if you can, especially Zen Arcade) and showcases the bands transition from blistering punk to upbeat melodic alternative rock.  Here's a few tracks to wet your appetite: New Day Rising Terms of Psychic Warfare If you're a fan of the fuzzy guitar and melodic undertones, be sure to buy it!
