New World Adds: Fabiano Do Nascimento, Adan & Xavi y Los Imanes
Fabiano Do Nascimento - Danca Dos Tempos: Fabiano Do Nascimento is the debut album of the artist by the same name, a young Brazilian guitarist whose talent is evident from start to finish, a rare feat for a debut album. However, the real treat on this album is Airto Moreira's feature and influence, Airto is a Brazilian percussionist legend who has worked and toured with Miles Davis in the early 70s, performed with Dizzy Gillespie in the 90s, and even collaborated with Mickey Hart on the Apocalypse Now soundtrack. Airto is the songwriter and bandleader, and his influence is key to this albums folkloric storytelling ability, the album seems to move forward as if it were written intermittently throughout a voyage or long journey. The emotions exhibited by this album are wide-ranging and they truly feel genuine and unforced. "Primeira Estrella" is joyful, "Minha Ciranda" intrigues and wanders whilst "Se Ela Preguntar" plays out like a tragic latin love story. Overall Danca Dos Tempos is very solid, and the lack of any technical production allows for the natural quirks and subtleties of the performance to shine through in a manner that feels raw and very human. Adan & Xavi y Los Imanes - Adan & Xavi y Los Imanes: This is the eponymous debut of this duo and I don’t know if there is more to come, but it’s a good one off-er. Adan Jodorowsky (Adanowsky and also son of the illustrious psychomagician filmmaker and possibly inspiration of Yeezus, Alejandro Jodorowsky) and Xavi Polycarpe (Gush) have joined together to produce an easy listening album. The album alternates between English, Spanish, and French as well as blending Rod Stewart sounding pop (on Heartbeat) to those with a waxing Western slide guitar. It follows the classic inspiration of relationships and creates a sound that matches the album art which is a cool sundown (sunrise?) over a flat horizon w/ two dessert mounds. IAN
