New This Week: Binders Full of DJs

The laws of science do not apply to The Robot.

Ultraísta - Ultraísta

As you'll recall, last week's adds were REBELLIOUS, but it seems that we were just ahead of the curve in this instance.  I'm still entranced with this spaced-out krautrock affair, and the show on Friday was excellent!  See for yourself - incidentally, I was right behind this guy in the crowd.  His excessive chortling at 0:43 pretty much says it all. -ZN

Recommended Tracks (Week 2 Edition): "Our Song", "Easier", "Party Line"

Tamaryn - Tender New Signs

West Coast new wave with a dreamy, washed out, woke-up-on-the-beach-at-6 AM-without-shoes-on vibe. Her hypnotic voice, the bittersweet melodies- it all makes for a truly gorgeous album, perfect for quiet, melancholic self-reflection. Or like, drinking beers or something. Whtvr yr in2. -JLF

Recommended Tracks: "Heavenly Bodies", "Transcendent Blue", "Prizma"

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Cobra Juicy

“I think it is beautiful that you are 256 colors too,” – YouTube. Black Moth Super Rainbow is maybe like 10 light miles past the bleeding chandelier and into the psychedelic suburbs – “Gangs in the Garden.”  It’s a mix of electronic, experimental, and psychedelic.  Robots become soft, and their voices sound AMAZING !! -JH

Recommended Tracks:Windshield Smasher", “Hairspray Heart”, “We Burn”, "Dreamsicle Bomb"

The Amazing - Gentle Stream

Pedigree is an important step to credibility in the indie rock world.  This band's name is a facepalm of the highest magnitude, but the musicians include Reine Fiske and Johan Holmegaard of Dungen, a Swedish psych-rock outfit that I'm particularly fond of (start with Ta Det Lugnt if your interest is piqued).  Here, they team with singer-songwriter Christoffer Gunrup for a loose and jammy backwoods rock record in the vein of Crazy Horse or Midlake. -ZN

Recommended Tracks: "Flashlight", "Dogs", "The Fog"

Chelsea Wolfe - Unknown Rooms: A Collection of Acoustic Songs

Sleepy, folk-y, harmonious, pretty BUT she’s not another Feist sound-a-like, really.  As soon as Wolf’s voice slices into your ears it will actually creep you out – in a good way.  Try it out on your show!  Just think, with those good speakers in Studio A you will have one hell-of-a-time as you feel the hairs on the back of your neck rise as you “swear” that Wolf’s voice is actually the ghost you probably pissed off while playing the Ouija board in high school coming back to haunt you.  But, this album is gøød and yes, a little scary. -JH

Recommended Tracks: "Flatlands", "Appalachia", “Hyper Oz”
