NEW ADDS: Coco & Clair Clair, PinkPantheress, Eloise, quinnie, Weyes Blood, and Jade Imagine
Coco & Clair Clair - Bad Lil Vibe
Genre: Bedroom pop
RIYL: Clairo, Cowgirl Clue, PinkPantheress
Coco & Clair Clair pour it up and pour one out for Betty White on “Bad Lil Vibe,” a standout track from their new album Sexy released on Nov. 4. The Atlanta natives’ laid-back sound and cheeky sense of humor have garnered them a cult following since their first release in 2015, but Sexy marks the duo’s full-length debut. Balancing searing disses with absurd pop culture references, the duo is as witty and braggadocious as ever. “Like some Golden Girls, y’all old hags look hit / Rest in peace to Betty White though / I’ma keep swiping left on all these man hoes,” Coco sings on the song’s second verse. As their voices cruise effortlessly over the song’s lo-fi hip-hop production, the duo’s cutesy, unbothered delivery only makes their words more biting. If you don’t like “Bad Lil Vibe,” Coco & Clair Clair are probably too busy partying to care.

PinkPantheress - Do you miss me?
Genre: Pop, Drum and bass
RIYL: Piri, Kaytranada, Hannah Diamond
PinkPantheress’s songs are head rushes. Her catchy hooks and bittersweet lyricism hit you all at once, but wash away in an instant. The London-based songstress is known for her brevity: she’s yet to release a song that surpasses three minutes, and her new single “Do you miss me?” is another bite-sized addition to her catalogue. But just as on her spectacular 2021 EP to hell with it, PinkPantheress needs little time to make you feel a lot. On “Do you miss me?,” she is the other woman, pining over a lover who won’t put her first. “I can be discreet if you don’t want her seeing you / with me on your arm / ‘cause I know you can’t tell her yet,” she promises. Her sugary vocals are complemented by cowbells and house grooves, evidence of co-producer Kaytranada’s involvement on the track. When she repeats the title on the chorus, it feels rhetorical, like a diary entry. If you need her, you can find PinkPantheress in her bedroom, “practicing her ‘I Do’s,” yearning for love and writing down what she can’t say out loud.

Eloise - Vanilla Tobacco
Genre: R&B/Soul
RIYL: Laufey, Micah Edwards, Scary Pockets
British singer-songwriter Eloise, has a soulful, acoustic sound that makes you bop your head, groove, and even occasionally brings out a little stank face. “Vanilla Tobacco” starts with stripped-down vocals and acoustic guitar for the first verse, then a syncopated drum beat and light, ultra blended harmonies join in. And to put the cherry on top, Eloise has perfected the art of tasteful runs, both in her melodies and in her supporting harmonies. This single is full of sexy lyrics about, well, sex. But the song itself is not raunchy or explicitly obvious in its sensual nature; it feels more like a reflection on a soft morning-after, especially with the vocal effects sounding like it was made in a bedroom (in a vulnerable way). If you like this new single from Eloise, I strongly recommend “Intertwined” to continue your exploration of her music.

quinnie - silver second
Genre: Indie Pop, Bedroom pop
RIYL: Clairo, girl in red, Gracie Abrams
If you’ve been on TikTok at all in the last few months you might have heard the shimmery snippet of “touch tank” by quinnie. Quinnie shows us with her new track “silver second” that she’s not only good for a 15 second viral TikTok audio, but she’s capable of putting out some truly heartbreaking tunes. The song is slow and solemn but the buildup is worth it when you get to the bridge that will stop you dead in your tracks. Quinnie is the perfect indie girl artist and this song is worth a listen especially because her airy vocals perfectly compliment the change in the weather and chill in the air.

Weyes Blood - Hearts Aglow
Genre: indie/alternative
RIYL: Angel Olsen, Faye Webster
Natalie Laura Mering, known as Weyes Blood, is an artist from Pennsylvania, known for her transcendent and ethereal but simultaneously melancholic music. Her song “Hearts Aglow” from her new album, And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow, is gorgeous with harrowing lyricism. I have the absolute pleasure of seeing Weyes Blood live at The Theatre at Ace Hotel on December 8th and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Jade Imagine - I Guess We’ll Just Wait
Genre: Dream Pop
RIYL: Sloan Peterson, Tennis, Jess Cornelius
From Melbourne, Australia, synthwave and art-pop band Jade Imagine has just released their sophomore album, Cold Memory. I was excited for the album after listening to the single “Instinct That I Wanna Know,” and knew I was in for something good after listening to opening track, “I Guess We’ll Just Wait.” The track offers a light and warm aura perfect for a Sunday afternoon. Front woman Jade McInally’s airy and disheveled vocals alongside what sounds like some fun slide guitar make for a lovely draw-in for the rest of the album.
