SHOW REVIEW: Youngr at the Troubadour

Youngr is a UK based act signed to Island Records, and on Saturday, November 3rd, the one-man show brought energy and positivity to the LA crowd at The Troubadour. Youngr utilizes a unique stage set up in order to accomplish this. Picture a drum kit stage left with a keyboard and synthesizers stage right, a selection of electric guitars and an electric bass up stage with a vocal mic down stage. All of this is situated with just enough room for him to move around and live produce his whole set.

There is something so intriguing about literally watching the creative process behind putting songs together. Through the use of a loop pedal, Youngr builds his songs live on stage, instrument by instrument. This immediately made me think of Ed Sheeran’s early shows, where it was just him, an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal. Youngr takes it to a whole new level, creating the feel of a live 5-piece band.

Youngr’s set included songs from his most recent EP, “Obsession” as well as his singles such as “Drive” and “Lost in Translation”. These songs were buffered by his covers of songs like “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac and his viral take on “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap.

Having only been on the scene for a few years, (his first single, “Out of My System” dropped in 2016) Youngr has made a splash in the electronic pop scene. His most recent single, “Lost in Translation” was a crowd favorite Saturday night, and hopefully Youngr continues to bless our ears with is eclectic and positive music.
