New Hip Hop Adds: Father, Young Thug

Father - I'm a Piece of Shit: Ah, an album I can truly identify with. Father is an Atlanta based rapper that is also the head of Awful Records, which gave us A$AP Mob affiliated rapper Playboi Carti (I still haven't heard enough of his music to give an honest opinion on what I think of him). I'm a Piece of Shit is the much anticipated followup to his last project, Who's Gonna Get Fucked Tonight. While I haven't heard its predecessor, I can be sure of one thing before going into any other details: THIS ALBUM FUCKING SLAPS. I can't find one thing on this album, save for Makonnen's appearances on this, worth criticizing. Father's distinct indifferent flow and style remind me of Vince Staples pre-Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2, which I know some of us miss, and perfectly complements the spaced-out, lo-fi production on this album. Oh yeah, anyone involved in the production of this album deserves a Nobel Prize. I'm not even exaggerating or joking around. The synths and drums on this are so beautiful and perfectly exemplify the type of music you go out cruising to with a girl you like. If you're a guy or girl trying to finesse some from your significant other, play any song off this. I promise it'll get sweaty real quick. This world is a better place because of this album.

I wish I could just recommend every track so that you'd be forced to listen to this from start to finish, but I realize that's impractical for some of you. At the very least, you should check out Why Don't U, Lanes, Slide Thru, and Spit or Swallow. SHAWN

Young Thug - Slime Season 3: Another Atlanta rapper?!!!!!!!! I'm going to be honest with you all, I've never really liked Thugger Thugger. His voice and delivery were always off putting and, to put it bluntly, incoherent. I know I'm definitely in the minority when it comes to this, as Thugger Thugger has received cosigns from people such as Andre 3000, Kanye West and just about every #sadboy whose closet consists of exclusively Palace and Supreme pieces (me). When his highly anticipated project Slime Season 3, his final mixtape in the Slime Season trilogy, dropped seemingly out of nowhere, I decided that maybe it was time to give the rapper another listen and finally bury the hatchet. After all, I used to dislike Travis Scott and now infamously consider Rodeo to be one of the best albums of 2015 (more on that in the next adds email). Anyways, I sat down, gave this mixtape an honest listen, and...

Yep, still hate his music. Even more actually now. This is what happens when you give kids participation medals in school and make them feel like they can do anything, except it's gotten WAY out of hand now, as even KANYE has been deluded into letting this musical ulcer pollute his work as well. The mystery of Thugger Thugger's fame in hip hop is more difficult for me to solve than my CS104 homework. Although, in a nation where the majority of the people feel that a person like Donald Trump is fit to be president of the free world, it doesn't shock me that we could also let ourselves come to this consensus on Thugger Thugger. I feel like I'd have an easier time forgiving my mother if I found out she wanted to abort me than forgiving Thugger Thugger for what he's done to hip hop. What shocks me even more than the hype surrounding this project is how fast someone was able to decipher what he was saying well enough to put lyrics up on RapGenius. Watch me ironically spinning these tracks and mumbling my interpretations of whatever the fuck he's saying (this act is particularly a hit with the song Drippin').

In all seriousness though, this mixtape sucks. But I know a lot of you love this guy, so why not.
