Mick Jenkins is coming straight out of Chicago, and covers a lot of ground on his tracks. Think darker hip hop/ poetry/ jazz/ neo-soul. Peep his Water[s] project!
Charles Bradley - The Observatory - 10/07
Charles Bradley makes modern soul music reminiscent of the Motown greats. I've never heard of a performance where this man has not broken down crying on stage mid-song at least once. Absolutely one of the best performers I've ever seen, and mf is 67 years old!
Wynton Marsalis, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra at Valley Performing Arts Center - 10/08
Wynton Marsalis is a living jazz legend, and this show is going to be huge.
Black Moth Super Rainbow at the Echoplex - 10/13
OK, don't let me lose you with the name. This band is actually really rad. Listen to Forever Heavy!
Moses Sumney at Immanuel Presbyterian Church - 10/15
This show is going to be magic. Moses Sumney's set is gospel/neo-soul/spoken word... and in a church? I seriously cannot imagine a cooler venue to see this. Listen to Plastic!
Lauryn Hill at The Greek - 10/20
Ok yes I know.... She has a bad track record for being on time to shows.... but, still! Lauryn Hill is a living r&b legend! She raps, she sings, she does actually really great spoken word. If you haven't really dug deep to the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, do it! Debatably one of the most important records of our generation.
R Kelly at Microsoft Theater - 10/22
I don't care what anyone says - this show is going to be dope. Have you listened to I Believe I Can Fly recently? He was like the OG to bring a complete gospel choir on a track, and yes he was involved in some bs a few years ago, but we can forget about that... right?
Ramiro Mosquera - World Music Director
Comedic Comics and Comedic Musicians come together in a way only Jack Black's hard working little peanut brain could conceive of.

This lineup is ridiculous! Come through to hear Bon Iver, Gucci Mane, La Femme and TLC play the same festival. Also playing are The Growlers, Devendra Banhart, and a ton of great LA bands.

Margaret Glaspy @ The Echo – 10/03
Margaret Glaspy is a rock-ish singer/songwriter with a pretty unique voice and overall sound. She’s currently on tour following the release of her album Emotions and Math. Also, the bass player in her band, Chris Morrissey, is a personal hero of mine.
Gregory Porter @ The Orpheum Theatre – 10/06
Gregory Porter’s voice is one of the most soothing things I’ve ever heard. Along with his band, led by pianist Chip Crawford, Gregory will be singing tunes from his new album Take Me To The Alley.
Lucky Chops @ The Teragram Ballroom – 10/10
Lucky Chops is a brass band from New York that made a name for themselves busking in various NYC subway stations (you may recognize them from some videos on Facebook and YouTube that have been widely shared). Their music is high energy, fun, funky, and definitely dance-able; should be a good time.
John Raymond Real Feels @ The Blue Whale – 10/14
Real Feels is an incredible and aptly-named trio featuring Minnesota native John Raymond on flugelhorn, Israeli guitar wizard Gilad Hekselman, and Denver’s Colin Stranahan on drums. Together their music holds a uniquely emotional quality, which varies from simple yet meaningful melodies, to densely poignant walls of sound. On their previous album and tour they played exclusively covers, ranging from Simon & Garfunkel to Charlie Parker to Chris Morrisey and even Thom Yorke. This time, however, expect more of the group’s original material as they prepare for a new album.

New album, new live show feat. Justin Vernon, Mike Lewis, Andrew Broder, and many more of my favorite musicians, all on the same stage. If didn’t know, now you know.
